Where to Rent a 4x4 in Ouray
Switzerland of America Jeep Rentals is Ouray's longest-running rental outfit, offering a fleet of hard and soft-top Jeeps alongside detailed trail maps and a safety briefing for first-timers. San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours also rents vehicles by the day.
Book rental vehicles in advance for summer weekends — demand far exceeds supply from July 4th through Labor Day. Most shops require a valid driver's license, major credit card, and strictly enforce minimum driver age.
Recommended Routes for Rental Vehicles
The Alpine Loop is the benchmark — plan a full day for the 65-mile circuit and bring snacks, a spare tire, and a downloaded offline map. Imogene Pass is rewarding but technical; ask the rental shop about current road conditions before attempting it.
For a shorter adventure, the road to Yankee Boy Basin is spectacular and more forgiving, reaching wildflower meadows near the base of Mount Sneffels. Most rental vehicles can handle this route comfortably.
Adventure Ready from The Lumberyard
Pick up your rental, load your cooler, and head out from The Lumberyard Condos — the main rental shops are all within walking distance of our property on 4th Avenue. Return in the evening for the hot springs.
Book your condo at ouraycondos.com and we'll make sure you have everything you need to hit the trails the next morning.
