Ouray's Historic Architecture

Main Street retains an almost complete block of late Victorian commercial architecture — brick facades, cast-iron columns, ornate cornices, and original pressed-tin ceilings inside many of the buildings. The Beaumont Hotel, built in 1887, is the jewel of the collection.

The Ouray County Courthouse, city hall, and several Victorian homes on the north side of town are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Self-guided walking tour maps are available free at the Ouray Visitor Center.

Mining History in Town

The Ouray County Museum in the historic hospital building (1887) chronicles the silver boom and bust through artifacts, photographs, and period furnishings. It's one of the best small-town mining museums in Colorado.

The Bachelor Syracuse Mine, two miles above town, offers underground tours through original mine tunnels — an experience that makes the surface history come alive in visceral, mineral-scented detail.
