The Best of Ouray in Summer
Summer in Ouray is the full menu — jeeping the Alpine Loop, hiking to wildflower basins, fishing the Uncompahgre, kayaking at Ridgway Reservoir, photographing waterfalls, and soaking in the hot springs every evening.
July is peak wildflower season — the roads to Yankee Boy Basin and Engineer Pass are open, the meadows are in full bloom, and the 14ers are accessible to strong hikers. Longer days mean more time for all of it.
Summer Events in Ouray
Summer in Ouray includes the Artists Alpine Holiday (July–August), the Ouray 4x4 Jeep Jamboree, and a steady calendar of live music and outdoor events. Check the Ouray Chamber of Commerce calendar before your trip.
Box Canyon Falls is at its most dramatic in June when snowmelt peaks — a thundering column of water crashing through the narrow gorge. By August, the flow is calmer and the hike is drier.
