Ice Climbing and Winter Sports in Ouray
The Ouray Ice Park is the winter centerpiece — 200+ free routes in the gorge, from beginner slabs to expert pillars. The most concentrated ice climbing community in North America descends on Ouray every January for the Ice Festival.
Snowshoeing from town into the lower canyon terrain and along the Uncompahgre River corridor is peaceful and accessible on fresh snow days. Groomed Nordic trails at Ridgway State Park are a 10-mile drive.
Ski Day Trips from Ouray
Telluride Ski Resort is just over an hour away and offers world-class skiing from December through April. Purgatory near Durango is 90 minutes south for a fuller resort experience with beginner terrain.
The combination of ski days and evening hot springs soaking makes Ouray an exceptional winter base — better recovery than any ski resort hotel at a fraction of the price.
Warm Up at The Lumberyard
Return from the Ice Park or the slopes to a warm condo with full kitchen amenities and walk 9 blocks to the hot springs. The Lumberyard Condos makes Ouray's winter adventures both exhilarating and deeply comfortable.
