Fireworks in a Box Canyon
Ouray's Independence Day fireworks are launched from the canyon walls above town, so the bursts appear at the same elevation as the surrounding cliffs — not high overhead as in most shows. The sound echoes and re-echoes off the rock faces in a way that makes every burst feel twice as large.
Main Street fills with lawn chairs and blankets hours before dark. The best unobstructed views are from the south end of town near Box Canyon, or from the Uncompahgre River corridor looking north. The Perimeter Trail offers an elevated perspective for those willing to hike up before the show.
The Full 4th of July Program
The day includes a traditional small-town parade down Main Street in the morning, a community barbecue, and live music at the park in the afternoon. The fireworks cap the evening at dusk — typically around 9pm in early July.
Accommodation books out months in advance for the 4th of July weekend. The combination of the holiday, peak wildflower season, and Jeep touring traffic makes this one of the hardest weekends of the year to find availability in Ouray.
Book Early at The Lumberyard Condos
The Lumberyard Condos fill for the 4th of July weekend well ahead of season. Book direct at ouraycondos.com as early as possible — walk the parade from your condo door and watch the fireworks from the street out front.
All five units are dog-friendly, making holiday trips with dogs practical and comfortable. No Airbnb fees, direct communication with the hosts.
