A Campground Unlike Any Other in Colorado
The Ouray Amphitheater Campground is operated by the City of Ouray and sits on the canyon rim directly above Main Street. Sites are spread across a sloped rock shelf that gives campers elevated views over the town and down the canyon toward Silverton.
The name comes from the natural curved cliff face that wraps the north end of the campground like a theater backdrop. It's a genuinely dramatic place to wake up — coffee in hand with canyon walls rising a thousand feet on three sides.
Facilities and Reservations
The campground offers basic amenities: vault toilets, water spigots, and fire rings at each site. There are no hookups for RVs — this is a tent and small-trailer campground. Sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations.
Summer weekends fill quickly, especially during the Jeep Jamboree in late June. Arriving Thursday or Friday evening is the surest way to secure a site. The city also operates a small RV park closer to downtown.
For Groups Too Large to Camp Together
If your group needs more comfort than a tent, The Lumberyard Condos offer a fully furnished alternative just minutes away. The five units sleep up to ten guests total, with full kitchens and a great central location for exploring the same trails and attractions.
Book direct at ouraycondos.com — no service fees and direct communication with the hosts.
