The Road from Las Vegas to Ouray
Head northeast out of Las Vegas on US-93 to I-15 north through St. George and Provo, then US-6 east and I-70 east into Colorado. From Grand Junction, US-50 east to Montrose and US-550 south into Ouray completes the route.
The drive is best split overnight — St. George or Moab make excellent stops before the final mountain approach into Ouray. The Moab to Ouray leg alone is a highlight of any Southwest road trip.
The Ouray Antidote to Las Vegas
Everything Las Vegas amplifies — noise, crowds, artificial light, desert heat — Ouray is the opposite. Quiet canyon nights, 75°F summer afternoons, natural hot springs, and total immersion in mountain scenery make Ouray the ultimate Vegas detox.
The San Juan Mountains reward every form of outdoor engagement: hiking, jeeping, climbing, photography, or simply sitting on a porch watching waterfalls cascade down canyon walls.
