Day 1 — Canyon Immersion
Start with the Box Canyon Falls Trail (0.5 miles, easy) to see Ouray's most dramatic waterfall. Then hike the Ouray Perimeter Trail loop for panoramic views of the entire canyon — plan for 4–5 hours.
End the day at the Ouray Hot Springs Pool. The 250-foot outdoor pool is heated by natural geothermal springs and stays open until 10 PM.
Day 2 — Alpine 4WD Adventure
Rent a Jeep or bring your own high-clearance 4WD. The Alpine Loop to Engineer Pass takes a full day and crosses two 12,000-foot passes with sweeping views of the San Juans. Packed lunch is essential.
Alternatively, drive Yankee Boy Basin Road (accessible to stock 4WDs) through stunning wildflower meadows below Mt. Sneffels.
Day 3 — History and the Million Dollar Highway
Spend the morning at the Bachelor-Syracuse Mine Tour — a narrated trip inside a real working mine from the 1880s. It's one of the best living history experiences in the San Juans.
Drive the Million Dollar Highway to Silverton for lunch, then return through Ouray at golden hour. The Lumberyard Condos at ouraycondos.com sleeps groups of all sizes — perfect for the full 3-day run.
