Signature Adventures in Ouray

The Ouray Via Ferrata is Colorado's most dramatic via ferrata — an iron-protected climbing route up the canyon walls above town. Guided and self-guided options are available. The exposure is serious; this is a true adventure, not a tourist attraction.

The Ouray Ice Park, open January through mid-February, hosts over 200 ice climbing routes in a 2,000-foot stretch of canyon. It's free to climb (with gear), and guided intro clinics run daily.

High-Alpine 4WD and Backcountry

The Alpine Loop National Back Country Byway crosses Engineer and Cinnamon Passes at over 12,500 feet — a world-class high-clearance 4WD circuit. Engineer Mountain and other summits along the route are scramble-accessible from the road.

Imogene Pass (13,114 ft) connecting Ouray to Telluride is one of Colorado's most challenging 4WD routes. The views from the summit are among the best in the San Juans.

Adventure Base Camp: The Lumberyard

The Lumberyard Condos is Ouray's ideal adventure base camp — 2 blocks from Main Street, a short drive to every trailhead, full kitchen to fuel your expeditions, and dog-friendly for trail partners of all species.

Book directly at ouraycondos.com. The hosts can connect you with local guides for Via Ferrata, ice climbing, and 4WD tours.
