The Ouray Hot Springs Pool
The Ouray Hot Springs Pool is a 250-foot outdoor pool fed by natural geothermal springs that bubble up from the valley floor. The water ranges from 78°F in the lap swimming section to 106°F in the hot soaking pools. The pool is open year-round, including holidays.
The springs have been used for centuries — first by the Ute people, then by miners in the 1800s, and now by visitors and locals alike. The current facility includes a large main pool, shallow areas for children, and hot soaking pools.
Best Times to Visit
Weekday mornings are the least crowded — arrive when the pool opens for a near-private experience. Summer weekend afternoons can be busy. Winter evenings are the most atmospheric — steam rising from the pool as snow falls.
The pool is especially magical during the Ouray Ice Festival in late January — sore muscles from a day of ice climbing melt away in the hot soaking pools while the canyon walls glow with ice climbers above.
Stay a Short Walk Away
The Lumberyard Condos is 9 blocks from the Ouray Hot Springs Pool — one of the closest vacation rental options in town. After a long day of hiking or climbing, the proximity is everything.
