Waterfall Season in Ouray
Ouray's waterfalls reach their peak volume in May and June as snowmelt pours off the surrounding peaks. Box Canyon Falls, Cascade Falls, and dozens of unnamed falls are at their most dramatic — roaring and mist-filled.
The Box Canyon Falls Trail is the most accessible — a short, easy walk leads to a dramatic viewpoint inside the narrow canyon as the creek thunders through a 20-foot-wide gorge.
Spring Hiking and Exploration
Lower elevation trails open in April and May while upper routes are still snow-covered. This is the best time to hike without crowds — the Perimeter Trail and lower Bear Creek sections are excellent in May.
High-clearance 4WD routes typically open in late June, so spring is also the time to explore on foot before jeep season begins.
A Quiet Spring at The Lumberyard
Spring is the least-visited season in Ouray, which makes it ideal for travelers who want the canyon to themselves. The Lumberyard Condos offers more availability and competitive rates in spring.
If you're planning a spring visit, book at ouraycondos.com. The dog-friendly policy means your pup can join you for those mud-season trail walks.
