Free Parking in Ouray
Ouray's parking is almost entirely free, which is refreshing by Colorado mountain town standards. Municipal lots at the north and south ends of Main Street provide the bulk of public parking. Street parking along Main Street and side streets is free with standard time limits. The town is small enough that walking from any public lot to any destination takes under 10 minutes.
The north lot near the Hot Springs Pool is the most convenient for visitors spending time at the pool, north Main Street restaurants, and the Weehawken trailhead. The south lot near Box Canyon Falls provides direct access to that attraction and the south end of Main Street. Both are free and generally well-managed.
Peak Season Parking Strategy
July and August weekends can fill the main lots by mid-morning. If you arrive on a Saturday morning in peak season expecting easy parking, plan to arrive by 9 am or be prepared to walk further from overflow areas. Weekdays are significantly easier — even in peak season, mid-week parking is generally stress-free.
Trailhead parking at Box Canyon and Cascade Falls is limited. Arriving before 9 am on summer weekends virtually guarantees a spot. Arriving at 11 am on a busy Saturday can mean a 10–15 minute drive-around to find space. Overflow parking exists on side streets and in the municipal lots — it just requires a slightly longer walk.
RVs, Large Vehicles, and Trailers
Ouray's box canyon setting limits large-vehicle parking. RVs and vehicles towing trailers should use the designated areas at the north end of town near the Hot Springs. The main street and side streets have tight turns and low-hanging trees that make maneuvering larger rigs stressful. Research RV-specific lots in advance.
If you're towing a Jeep trailer for backcountry access, disconnect at the north lot and use your Jeep in town. The streets are narrow enough that navigating a truck-and-trailer combination through Ouray's residential blocks is frustrating and unnecessary. Most people drop trailers at their accommodation and drive the Jeep solo.
The Walkability Advantage of Staying Central
The best parking strategy in Ouray is parking once and not moving your car until you leave. Staying at the Lumberyard Condos at 55 4th Avenue puts you 9 blocks from the hot springs, a 5-minute walk of most Main Street restaurants, and walking distance of the Cascade Falls and Box Canyon trailheads. Park when you arrive and forget about parking for the rest of your stay.
This is a genuine quality-of-life difference in how a trip feels. Driving, searching for parking, and shuttling around a small canyon town eats time and adds friction. Central accommodation eliminates all of it. Book directly at ouraycondos.com — the location alone is worth it, and booking direct saves the OTA service fee on top.
