Two Falls, Fewer Crowds
The Twin Falls Trail accesses a pair of waterfalls in the canyon terrain on Ouray's east side — a moderate hike through rocky terrain with a rewarding double destination. The trail is less widely known than Lower Cascade Falls, which means significantly lighter traffic even on summer weekends. For travelers seeking a genuine canyon experience without the crowds of the town's main attractions, Twin Falls delivers.
The falls are best in late spring and early summer when snowmelt flow is at peak. By August, the upper fall in particular may be reduced to a trickle in dry years. May through early July is the optimal window.
Combining with Other Ouray Hikes
Twin Falls connects to the Perimeter Trail system at higher elevations, allowing creative route combinations for hikers who want to link multiple objectives in a half-day. From The Lumberyard, the trailhead access is roughly 20 minutes on foot through the east side of town.
